The Boyfriend Swap

I like to vary my reading occasionally by throwing in a Chick Lit book. Meredith Schorr’s The Boyfriend Swap was a good change of pace at the the right time. The first half established characters, varying the viewpoint in clearly marked divisions between elementary school music teacher Robyn and hard driven lawyer Sidney. It is quite funny as they both have family situations coming up at Christmas where they don’t want their families to meet their respective boyfriends for various reasons.
When the boyfriend swap occurs, the book still has humorous moments, but things don’t always turn out as expected so there are some anxious times as well. Is swapping boyfriends a good idea in anyone’s mind? Will it all work out in the end for Robyn, Sidney, and their boyfriends? Come along for a fun read, but don’t model your romantic life on theirs!

I usually feel that way, but it made a nice change of pace. A few years ago I read a Sophie Kinsella book (one of her Shopaholic ones) and found I enjoyed it. At that time I had access to a large English library in Mexico, had just retired, and my goal was to read all of Agatha Christie’s works. I walked into town and brought home a backpack of books every week and would occasionally throw in one of the Kinsella books if I had room. I am thankful for that library in my transition period. Now I am thankful for NetGalley and have found my niche in cozy mysteries with some branching out to satisfy mind and soul.

I read the Shopalholic when they first came. I am not sure why I stopped reading them.
It looks like I might be the end of my reading Ellie Quicke series. There doesn’t seem to be an ebook and there are major changes in that book. Checked out Kennington Press as they released a number of books The last 3 days. All due out December 26. I have three to read and request another one today. The three I have are on my December reading list. More reviews on the 30th.

I just realized why not NetGallery appears in my blog sometimes.. It is showing when I am writing about books. It doesn’t show when I have photos.

Thanks! It’s not on the level of a Jane Austin, but I’m not sure we would want every book to qualify for that category. Sometimes it is enough for a book to be entertaining.
