Madeline Finn and the Shelter Dog
written and illustrated by Lisa Papp
If you like kids and reading and you have a heart for shelter dogs, then you will enjoy sharing Madeline Finn and the Shelter Dog by Lisa Papp with a child in your life. The storyline is simple. A little girl, Madeline, begs her mother for a puppy. Mrs. Dimple, who volunteers at a shelter, has a rescue dog, Bonnie, with some pups. Madeline is allowed to choose one, and in the process she learns about shelters where animals wait for their forever homes as well as how to care for her new puppy. Madeline is a girl of action. She not only helps at the shelter, she also rallies her community to bring blankets and books to read to the shelter animals. Madeline Finn and the Shelter Dog is a sweet read with gentle and engaging illustrations.

Thanks. I read this a while back and am just getting it posted. I’m traveling and I was visiting someone whose Internet was down for almost the whole week I was there. My “already behind” has turned into “severely delayed.” I will have to just delete a lot of email notifications.😞

Keep it in mind for YEARS down the road when your “boys” have little ones.

I always have that in mind. But I love the CS Lewis Quote “A Children’s story enjoyed only by Children is a Bad Children’s story.”

That’s a great quote. Thanks for sharing it. I couldn’t agree more. As a teacher, in trying to encourage parents to read more with their kids, I always encouraged them to choose books they would enjoy as well.

Sounds so sweet and educational. I’d enjoy reading this to a child. I think I’d get quite a bit out of it too.

Reaching out to rescue animals is such an important thing to so and this is a sweet way to share that with children.

My grandchildren and I enjoyed this story as well. Rescue animals need all the plugs they can get.

So true. We fostered dogs until we moved to a subdivision that only allowed two dogs. It made no sense since that county had a very high euthanasia rate. Now we are out in the country and have two wonderful rescue dogs.

My kids have a rescue dog and cat. I am probably not getting another dog because I travel too much, but if I did, it would be a rescue.
